I finally got around to posting a piece I wrote during my recent trip to China, with The Closer We Get - read it here!
It covers everything from dumplings to screenings.

Beijing friends, me, random lobster
I'd a marvellous time in China thanks largely to Lulu (left) and Cherelle (centre) who put many hard hours into their iDOCS Documentary Forum at Beijing Film Academy. It was an unforgettable experience, to sit in the vast cinema listening to a whole new audience so far from Largs, laughing and crying.
The lobster - as far as I know - had nothing to do with the event.
Karen and the Hot Docs gong!
What a week - our first ever trip to Hot Docs in Toronto for the World Premiere of The Closer We Get.
We screened twice to fantastic audiences - laughter, a few tears and many insightful questions afterwards for myself and our editor Alice who travelled out with me.
Then came the award ceremony evening at the wondrously-named 'Shangri-La' hotel, when we heard we'd won the top prize - amazing! Luckily a friendly producer took care of my glass award for the rest of the evening for me (thanks Dewi!) as it went a bit hazy after that...
We met so many fantastic film-makers and film fans it really was quite overwhelming, but a wonderful start to the film's life. We can't wait to tell you about the UK premiere, which we can do in a few weeks time, so do watch this space !
Had a lovely evening at Cumbria's newest film festival last weekend, run by BRICarts in Broughton-in-Furness. I showed some film clips from our work, and the little-seen Pope & Guthrie short film Little Deluxe Living shot in the Lake District and Japan. This was followed by intriguing shorts by Ben Rivers and Gideon Koppel's acclaimed 'Sleep Furiously'- a beautifully shot doc set in the rural Welsh hills - was just the right thing for the audience there on the night but for me was rather too sepia tinted and genteel though there is much to admire in its restraint, pace and cinematography.
See here for a wee review
We're screening our short film 'Little Deluxe
Living' (followed by a Q & A with Karen) on Sat 5th
Dec at 6pm as part of 'A Weekend in the Country' which is
a new film festival by BRICarts at the Victory Hall in
Broughton-in-Furness in the Lake District.

We're thrilled that the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas has accepted Living with the Tudors for its international premiere in March 2008!
We had a great time there with Bata-ville in 2006 so really look forward to revisiting....
