“This dry, droll and slightly dark documentary from the inimitably strange pair of British artist-filmmakers Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope explores the world of Kentwell Hall in Suffolk, England, home to a large-scale 16th century “reenactment.” Guthrie and Pope spent years in the reenactment world and gained the trust of some of its hardcore loyalists ... Alternately witty and sympathetic, “Living With the Tudors” moves beyond mere subculture anthropology into a kind of meditation on the desire, or need, we all sometimes feel to escape from our lives.”

Titchy/Kitschy

A rare Pope & Guthrie multiple produced in collaboration with Grizedale Arts.
Exquisitely realised utopian visions of rural life in the English Lake District and Japan, each model is intricately and uniquely hand-painted.

This piece originates in the Seven Samurai project, and we worked with a former sculptor from the notable Cumbrian Lilliput Lane company to realise these idealised Japanese and English farmhouses in miniature.
The mould for the Japanese house was sent to the villagers of Toge (Japan) after editioning, to encourage them to replicate the house in any way they saw fit - either for themselves or for the visitor market.

  • Signed edition of 10 pairs
  • Model dimensions 8cm x 14cm x 13cm
  • Each house is supplied in its own box with shatterproof packaging, dimensions 16cm x 16cm x 16cm
  • Price is for the pair, houses not available seperately

Please note that due to their value we'll send these via UPS Standard Insured hence higher postage costs than you may expect.

A Public Auction of Private Art Works Sale Catalogue

Documenting a project by Nina Pope which used the 'restaging' of an auction held in 1949 at Kimbolton Castle as the starting point for a new work. The original 1949 catalogue inspired 56 new works by invited contemporary artists and designers including Richard Slee, Margarita Gluzberg and Freddie Robins. Each invited artist chose a lot from the original sale list and created a work in response to it.
The new commissioned pieces were shown alongside paintings from the original Manchester collection in the staterooms of Kimbolton Castle and the actual sale took place in the Castle courtyard. .
This richly illustrated catalogue features wonderful photographs by Howard Sooley and an introductory essay ‘Sunset at Kimbolton’ by Duncan McLaren.
