| The
Pier(#94Rn) It is an uncommonly beautiful day here: The sun is emerging, and the sharp coastal light picks out the tiniest details of the view before you. Obvious exits: West (W) leads to The Ferry. East (E) leads to The Seaside Town. North (N) leads to The Sea. |

| Island
is a MUSH (or text-based
environment) run by the artists Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie as part of the
ongoing piece, An Artists' Impression. Arriving on the island as a visitor or tourist you are faced with familiar dilemmas - should you hover by the Ferry terminal and read all the available information, stroll out confidently along the pier and mingle with the locals or carefully trace out the geography of the island - starting with a walk around the coast and ending up with an intimate chat in a quiet inland village? Perhaps you would like to stay here? Perhaps you would like to build your own home - or holiday home? Maybe, you will just drop in occasionally to chat to friends and check out new building developments. Anything is possible, all your decisions are controlled only by the speed of your typing, and the spaces you choose to describe. Island may have a slightly unusual feel if you are a regular Mu* user - the landscape described here could seem familiar to visitors from the UK, but alien to those travelling from abroad. For anyone who has been involved in the artists' past work, images may come to mind that evoke other locations or pictures. Island has its heritage in a visual world - it is now an artists' work in progress. The artists, as hosts, are inviting you to join them in defining how this text-based environment will develop. If you would like to look around the island there is a travel information sheet. If you need further help with your travel arrangements or want to know more the Island contact us directly on artists@somewhere.org.uk. The artists thank Alan Schwartz for all his support in the project. Technical Help | Somewhere | Contact | Car Boot Sale | Islanders Against Tourism | |
