Project Schedule

This is the time table we are currently working with - If you are interested in meeting us on the route - drop us a line and we can work out a more accurate plan! The information here will be updated as we approach the start of the tour in March.
Dec. 1995 - Feb. 1996:
- Publish information regarding the piece on the Internet, inviting responses and involvement of all kinds, e.g. historical information, contacts, etc.
- Research these and develop tour plan. Set up in advance workshops to be held on the route and lectures which will occur whilst we are actually touring. Some, it is hoped, will be relayed to remote sites. Begin to make pages in response to the historic Journal, and develop existing site on the Internet.
- Organise sponsorship and siting of as many public access Internet computers as possible. These can be in galleries, institutions, 'cybercafes' etc.We hope the Edinburgh and London Cyberia Cafes will participate. This allows people without home or work access to also view the project.
- Raise awareness of project through workshops, talks etc. The project has already been presented as part of the 'Lost in Space' conference at the Cambridge Darkroom Gallery, also at University College London, Bournemouth & Poole College of Art, and to the students on the digital imaging course at Tower Hamlets College.
- Increase hits to the site by publicising it in the press - Judith Dunlop's Article about the project in the Scotsman will, we hope, bring in a lot of new Scottish visitors.
- Establish technical contacts and server location.
Mid March - Mid April 1996 - The Tour:
- To follow as exactly as possible the original route of Boswell and Johnson, time span altered by use of car as transport. Continue contact with Internet contributors throughout, encouraging in particular historical information relating to the places visited. Obviously meet people on the route but also hold 'chat' sessions using IRC (Internet Relay Chat), and more structured workshops for groups interested in the project and the technology.
- Each artist carries a portable computer on which to create the Internet pages separately and in collaboration. These will be loaded onto the server daily. Additionally, a video camera, sound recording equipment and stills cameras will be carried. Each contact made, planned and impromptu, recorded in one or several of these formats, for use both on Internet on the CD ROM (which will act as an archive and report on the project) and later in the gallery installation.
Mid April 1996 - May 1996
The CD ROM 'archive' of the project is compiled - This acts as a straight record (the whole site can be transferred to disc) a starting point for further work and a report into what has come out of the tour. We will invite curators to comment on the project, and their work can be added to comments by the artists and audience.
As well as the site itself much of the other video footage etc. taken during the tour will be archived to disc.
May 1996 - Development towards Installation:
We plan to make a gallery installation/work based on the tour and are contacting suitable venues now. Venues we will approach include ISEA, and Video Positive. We would like this work to tour also. Content dependant on collated 'archive', but likely to include computer technology.
