The Scientist's Tale

Phil Jones' pilgrimage was to Bognor Regis, a place that had obsessed him since the 1970's.
As a child he avidly followed the Russian and American space programmes, which at one point memorably focused on Bognor as the intended spot over which the cosmonauts and astronauts were to shake hands.
"As a child I thought by the year 2000 that not only would I be married with two kids, but that we would be saving up for a holiday on Venus.
The lack of offspring and spouse doesn't really bother me, but the fact that food hasn't been replaced by taste replicating pills is a constant source of disappointment.....
My tale will take the loose form of a scientific lecture, which will be given on the day in a community hall in Bognor and will of course be open to the public."
an excerpt from Blast-off to Bognor,
Phil's personal homage to the space race

On the day itself, Phil unfortunately delivered his illustrated Tale to an empty hall despite a prior promotion in Bognor's local paper. However, an appreciative remote crowd in Borough Market listened closely to this intriguing and funny story of a scientist's quest.
