The Passenger's Tale For his pilgrimage, Patrick McBride travelled to France by the easiest and most frequently used route (the Dover to Calais ferry), to "purchase luxury and modest goods at bargain prices". He travelled in an assumed persona. His Prologue describes Patrick's anticipation of his journey across the Channel with his fellow shoppers, and his plans for the disguise under which he will travel. His Tale, delivered from the Dover to London train, is a series of reflections on the day, illustrated by photographs from previous journeys.
