The Analysand's Tale

Mandy Dackombe's pilgrimage consisted of a walk from her home to the Freud Museum in North London.

Prior to the pilgrimage, Mandy tried to find an analyst who would agree to be filmed or recorded, whilst treating her on Freud's couch at the Museum. The quest was impossible, so Mandy turned to a hypnotherapist friend of hers, Peter Deakin, who was recorded with Mandy.

"Psychoanalysis has produced in the analyst a cultural figure whose work is aesthetic as much as it is investigative (in the style of the research scientist or of the private detective) and has made available to the patient the opportunity to render his or her life a work of art, a narrative of chance and destiny as well as a thriller, whether psychological or otherwise"
[John Forrester, 'Dispatches from the Freud Wars: Psychoanalysis and its Passions']
In Mandy's Prologue she discusses her motivation for undertaking a pilgrimage to the famous couch, whilst her Tale (filmed by Illumina TV) shows her under hypnotherapy.
